Our Lady of Mercy Academy Hosts HERO Walk

Newfield, NJ, November 6, 2012 –    This year the students from Our Lady of Mercy Academy were unable to attend the 2nd Annual HERO Walk in Ocean City so they decided to host a HERO Walk of their own. President of the SADD Club at OLMA, senior Victoria Cannizzaro, didn’t want to miss an opportunity to get the HERO Campaign’s message out to her classmates so she asked the permission of Principal Sister Grace Marie to host a HERO Walk at OLMA.

To participate in the HERO Walk, which took place during the last period of the school day, students and faculty were asked to donate $5 and were able to dress down for the day. On the front lawn of the school, students, faculty, and staff walked in support of the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers and learned of the campaigns message; Be a HERO. Be a Designated Driver ®

The HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers ® was founded by the family of Ensign John R. Elliott, who was killed by a drunk driver, soon after he graduated from the Naval Academy. The mission of the Campaign is to prevent future drunken driving tragedies by promoting the use of safe and sober designated drivers.
