How Funds are Used

Public Awareness
High-visibility billboards, a strong traditional and social media presence, community and educational events, and public relations articles effectively raise awareness of the HERO Campaign and its goal to end drunk driving.

School & College Programs
The HERO Campaign partners with high schools and colleges, by creating HERO Councils/Clubs, holding HERO Pledge Drives, and HERO Games intramural competitions to raise awareness and recruit new designated drivers. The college level HERO of the Year program honors student designated driver HEROES by displaying their pictures on billboards, digital signs and banners.

Special Events
Each year, supporters and volunteers participate in the John R. Elliott HERO Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run and the annual Be a HERO Golf Tournament. These events raise funds and awareness for the Campaign. Our HERO boat provided by Viking Yachts also takes our message to 50,000 revelers each summer at the annual Night in Venice Boat Parade in Ocean City, NJ.

Bar & Tavern Program
Participating HERO Bars and Taverns offer free soft drinks to designated drivers who present a digital HERO Membership Card, which they can download to their smart phones when they take the HERO Pledge at HEROcampaign.org. The HERO Safe Ride Program is offered to HERO bar & tavern partners to provide reduced-cost rides home for patrons in need during holiday times.

HERO Pledge & Highway HEROES
Our goal is to have over 100,000 HEROES take the Designated Driver Pledge at sports and entertainment venues, through school programs and online to be or use a designated driver. The program also includes distribution of thousands of Be a HERO car window decals – a highly visible way to promote our message.

“New” HERO Patrol Car Program
Police department patrol cars are wrapped with the HERO brand and designated driver message, serving as rolling billboard to prevent drinking and driving in their communities.

Printed Materials
Posters, banners, brochures, window decals and magnets provide a constant stream of impressions to build top-of-mind awareness with the public.
