HERO Campaign Raised $40,000 at 13th Annual HERO Walk Ocean City
The NJ State Police Mounted Unit lead this year’s HERO Walk October 20 in Ocean City
Ocean City, N.J. – More than 300 supporters and families of DUI victims gathered on the Ocean City Boardwalk Sunday, October 20 for the 13th annual HERO Walk. The event raised more than $40,000 for the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers and its mission to prevent drunk driving.

This year’s walk featured a display of 13 HERO Patrol cars wrapped with the brightly colored logo and message of the HERO Campaign: Be a HERO. Be a Designated Driver. A new Ocean City Police HERO Car sponsored by the Foster Karney Fund as dedicated at an unveiling ceremony. The popular NJ State Police Mounted Unit returned with their horse to lead the parade of walkers down the Boardwalk.
Miss South Jersey Molly Pugliese sang the National Anthem, and a memory banner memorial with pictures of 20 victims of drunk driving crashes was on display.
The HERO Campaign, now in its 24th year, promotes the use of safe and sober designated drivers in partnership with schools and colleges, police departments, bar and tavern owners, highway safety agencies and NFL and Major League Baseball teams.
More than 150,000 motorists have signed up to be designated drivers on the HERO Campaign’s online HERO Pledge at www.herocampaign.org.
