The 5th Annual John R. Elliott HERO Walk is this Saturday at 11AM at 6th Street and the Boardwalk in Ocean City.

Registration for the Walk, which had been originally scheduled for Oct. 4th but was postponed due to the threat of Hurricane Joaquin, will start at 9AM in the Civic Center between 5th and 6th streets at the Boardwalk.

The Walks begins with the Be A Hero Hat Toss at 11AM

“We are grateful to Mayor Jay Gillian and his Department of Community Services for helping us reschedule the walk, our largest community fundraising event of the year,” stated Bill Elliott, HERO Campaign chairman and founder.

He said the campaign expects 1,000 walkers and hopes to raise $50,000 at next week’s event, including a mass hat toss to start the walk. Music, a wellness warmup, face painting and chair massages will add to the festivities.

The campaign, which seeks to prevent drunk driving by promoting the use of safe and sober designated drivers, has set a goal to register 100,000 new designated drivers. A recent Stockton University poll showed widespread awareness and support for the campaign

Online pre-registration has been extended to Friday, October 9th at 2PM with a donation of $25 for adults and $15 for students. Registration on the day of the event will be $30 for adults and $20 for students.
